Easy with a grown-up
Kids cook with a grown-up. Hot ovens, boiling water and frying are grown-up jobs, and sharp knives need a grown-up’s hands too.
Bella’s job
Bella cracks the eggs into the bowl, whisks the chocolate batter and stirs in the walnuts.
Ingredients
All-purpose flour: 1 cup
Unsweetened cocoa powder: 3/4 cup
Sugar: 1 1/2 cups
Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
Eggs: 3
Butter: 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks), melted and slightly cooled
Vanilla extract: 2 teaspoons
Walnuts: 1 cup, roughly chopped
Rainbow sprinkles: 2 tablespoons
Method
Heat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9 by 13 inch baking pan.
Whisk the flour, cocoa, sugar and salt in a large bowl and make a well in the middle.
Crack the eggs into the well, one at a time.
Add the melted butter and vanilla. A grown-up makes sure the butter is not too hot.
Whisk until the batter is smooth, thick and glossy.
Stir in the walnuts with a spatula.
Scrape the batter into the pan and smooth the top.
Scatter the sprinkles over the batter.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Cool in the pan before cutting into squares.
