Medium with a grown-up
Kids cook with a grown-up. Hot ovens, boiling water and frying are grown-up jobs, and sharp knives need a grown-up’s hands too.
Bella’s job
Bella helps press the dough, spoons on the sauce, places the mozzarella and pours the hot honey.
Ingredients
Pizza dough: one 8 oz ball, at room temperature
Crushed tomatoes: 1/3 cup, with a pinch of salt
Mozzarella: 4 oz, cut into small cubes
Pepperoni: 12 slices
Black olives: 3
Hot honey: 1 tablespoon, to finish
Flour: for the board and peel
Method
Heat a pizza oven to about 800°F. In a home oven, heat a baking steel at 500°F or hotter for 45 minutes.
Press the dough out on a floured board. Push the ends down so the crust stays small.
Spoon the tomatoes over the dough and spread them with the back of the spoon.
Scatter the mozzarella cubes over the sauce.
Lay the pepperoni on top and add the olives.
Slide the pie onto a floured peel. A grown-up puts it in the hot oven.
Bake 90 seconds in a pizza oven, turning once. A home oven takes 7 to 9 minutes, until the pepperoni cups and the crust is crisp.
A grown-up takes it out. Cut the pie, drizzle on the hot honey and let it cool a minute.
