Level
Medium with a grown-up
Kids cook with a grown-up. Hot ovens, boiling water and frying are grown-up jobs, and sharp knives need a grown-up’s hands too.
Bella’s job
Bella sits on the couch and tells everyone how a slice tastes.
Ingredients
Pizza dough: one 8 oz ball, at room temperature
Crushed San Marzano tomatoes: 1/3 cup
Garlic: 2 cloves, sliced thin
Dried oregano: 1/2 teaspoon
Olive oil: 1 tablespoon
Salt: a pinch
Flour or semolina: for the peel
Method
Heat a pizza oven to about 800°F. In a home oven, heat a baking steel at 500°F or hotter for 45 minutes.
Stir the salt and half the olive oil into the tomatoes.
Stretch the dough into a round on a floured surface. Leave a small rim.
Spread the tomatoes over the dough. Scatter on the garlic and oregano.
Slide the pizza onto a floured peel. A grown-up puts it in the hot oven.
Bake 90 seconds in a pizza oven, turning once, until the edge is charred in spots. A home oven takes 6 to 8 minutes.
A grown-up takes it out. Drizzle on the rest of the olive oil and let it cool a minute before slicing.
